Apartment Whymper’s View occupies the entire second floor of the former Grand Hotel du Planet. Built in 1903, the hotel’s catered for an often-distinguished clientele and King Albert 1st of Belgium was known to be a regular visitor. The legendary mountaineer Edward Whymper described this terrace as “the most splendid view of the Alps!”
What is now Apartment Whymper’s View was once the bar, restaurant and afternoon terrace where guests could soak in the stunning views of Mt Blanc and sip an aperitif before dinner was served. Consequently, Apartment Whymper’s View has a vast surface area of 250 m2, with 180m2 of that dedicated to living space and the other 70m2 given over to the massive terrace.
The Hotel du Planet building is surrounded by meadows and on the edge of the Argentière forest and is a 3-minute drive from Argentière and 5 minutes from the Grands Montés cable car, which is visible from the terrace.
The interior of the apartment is composed of two large living rooms, one with fireplace, four bedrooms, each with a bathroom and a toilet. An independent kitchen and a separate toilet and laundry room complete what is without doubt one of the largest and most spectacular properties you can rent in the Chamonix valley.
