Chamonix remains closed in response to the measures taken by the French government to combat the spread of Covid-19. Its normally bustling streets are empty. Shops, bars and restaurants are locked and shuttered. It’s like a ghost town and nothing we have ever seen before or even imagined we might see. It is like life is on ‘pause’.
Chamonix will remain closed with life paused until May 11. Holiday rentals of less than 14 days are currently banned and you need papers to even be outside of your house. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. A glimmer of normality cracking the horizon to the east. Lockdown is coming to an end on May 11 and movement of people will return to France.
Judging by the emails we have been getting from our guests, it is clear that many of us have been confined to city apartments and are itching to get back out into the mountains and fresh air. As soon as is legally possible Mont Blanc Retreats will be opening its doors for you to come walking, trail running, paragliding, rock climbing, mountain biking or just soaking in the clean, mountain air.
Mont Blanc Retreats chalets and apartments are professionally cleaned to the highest standard using Covid-19 cleansing products and are rented to you on an exclusive basis so that you can rest assured that you are not sharing your private space with anyone but your closest friends and family.
Many of Chamonix’s finest bars and restaurants are offering take away services and super markets are open for business and offer online purchase and home delivery service.
Depending on what France’s Prime Minister Édouard Philippe announces today in his plans to lift the strict national lockdown announces, you could be breathing the clean mountain air of Chamonix and enjoying the mountains trails as early as May 12.
